Description:
Each year, 19,700 New Jersey teens under 18 become daily smokers - that's 54 teens a day! The main goal of this program is to reveal the techniques used by tobacco companies in their advertising. Students then doctor-up the tobacco ads to make them honest. This program gives students the ability to see through tobacco advertisers.

Body Image Register Now
Description:
A prevention program designed to provide young children with the necessary skills to express and deal successfully with feeling of anger and rage. Eight prehistoric puppets offer the audience some positive alternatives to violence that are practical and easy to understand. As the children identify with the characters, they see their friends finding peaceful solutions to everyday problems. They witness a world where reasoning works and kindness prevails. After each session, the audience is encouraged to participate in a related activity designed to reinforce the value presented.

Bullying Prevention Register Now
Description:
Middle school bullying is increasing in alarming proportions, and its harmful effects can last a lifetime. Did you know that bullies identified by age eight are six times more likely to be convicted of a crime by the age of twenty-four? This program helps middle schoolers identify and change bullying behavior, in them and in others. Through activities and participative discussions, students relate to bullying, teasing, and their responses to it. An optional component is a one hour introduction for parents and/or teachers.

Description:
Conflict Mediation is a process that empowers students to diffuse minor disputes before they become major problems leading to violence, injury, and disciplinary consequences. This four hour skill-based workshop is designed to train middle school students to become student mediators. Students will explore issue of empathy, diffusing angry situations, and learn effective communication techniques. Using realistic role-playing scenarios, participants will have the opportunity to work through the entire mediation process, beginning with setting a comfortable and safe environment and delivering an introduction to deciding on further preventative measures. Workshops are generally held over a two day period for two hours each session. Content includes:

Description:
In a world that is becoming increasingly more complex due to ethnic and cultural differences, educating our youth to embrace diversity can only lead to positive outcomes for the students and our community. This program is an activity based training that uses various demonstrations to open students eyes to the diversity around them. While recognizing the different cultures and backgrounds, students will also see how similar values and beliefs are held. In addition, students become aware of stereotypes and negative attitudes they may inadvertently pickup.

Description:
This curriculum explores the relationship between body images and eating disorders, the prevalence of eating disorders in youth, the source of messages about body image, types of eating disorders, and what to do if a student suspects a friend has an eating disorder. Keys to Innervision (KIV) Register Now
Description:
Offered to thousands of teenagers worldwide, KIV seeks to empower our youth by creating positive changes in the way they see themselves and process decisions. KIV is a nationally acclaimed curriculum about change; specifically, changing the beliefs and behaviors that lead to violence, alcohol/substance abuse, and school failure. The end results of the program are measurable, significant, positive, and often long lasting in their impact. A caregiver/parenting program is also available.

Description:
This is the drug that doesn't go away and is still commonly available to students. Lessons in the course deal with the consequences of marijuana, myths surrounding its use, and ways for young people to practice refusal and decision-making skills. The program uses video, cooperative learning, and the environmental approach to change community norms through the use of a media campaign.

Description:
Popular with both students and teachers, Team Challenge is conducted regularly in Hunterdon County middle schools as a way to encourage group dynamics and teach teamwork. This program is conducted in a gym, activity room, or park setting. Based on highly successful nationally acclaimed techniques, it consists of cooperative games and portable challenge elements that offer adventure experiences which enhance personal development and inter-personal behavior. Self-esteem and problem solving skills are also introduced. All this in an atmosphere of adventure and fun! Schools often conduct Team Challenge at the beginning of the sixth grade year as a way to encourage positive relationship building early on in the middle school experience, or a the end of the eighth grade year to work out end-of-year restlessness in a constructive environment.

Youth First: Above the Influence is a powerful curriculum about anti-drug empowerment that challenges teens to learn about negative influences and guide them in decision making without directly telling them what to do. Youth First supports the students ability to make the "right decisions" and increases protective factors by examining how students can remain above outside pressures.
